Physical education at our university
Scientific and pedagogical activity department of PE
Department of PE has gone through progressive changes for the last decade. It’s been transferred from department of general PE at University of mechanical engineering and textile to department of faculty of education with branch specialization but it still takes care of general PE for faculty of textile and mechanical engineering. The number of workers has been increasing. At this moment the department has 18 professors, administrative workers and an administrator of the sport premises.
All the forms of PE and sport (except swimming and curses) go to the area of sport premises DPE (Department of Physical education - KTV) at the moment. It includes a sport hall with a climbing wall,
a big gymnasium, a fitness center, a play-room for table tennis, a video-room and sauna. Workers and students have tennis courts at their disposal. Soccer and volleyball courts and athletic lanes are in the area of the stadium. This equipment isn’t enough for students and that’s why there is a project to complete the reconstruction of the stadium. The multifunctional sports center which will be built here will accommodate all sportsmen with attractive sport activities for students of all ages. Every facility, which is administered by KTV, doesn’t just serve for teaching but also to sportsmen from VSK TU Liberec and many others. We can find physiological laboratories and classes at the stadium and in the near future there is going to be built a diagnostic center of sport coordination.
KTV provides professional, practical and theoretical preparation for audiences from the branch of the faculty of pedagogic TU:
- Branch PE – teaching for second
First students for this branch physical education teaching were accepted for studying in the academic year 1990/91 and the first graduates ended their studies in 1993/94. Branch sport management started in 1996/97 and the first school-leavers graduated in 1998/99. This bachelor degree contains theoretical and practical subjects of PE, economics, law and language subjects which are attended by the economic faculty TU. Successful students have an opportunity to continue in engineer studies at the economic faculty in Liberec.
KTV provides non-branch PE classes for other students of TU for 2 hours per week for 1 to 6 semesters. PE is a non-optional subject at the faculty of mechatronics and textile in the 1st and 2nd year. PE is written as an optional subject for all other faculties i.e. faculty of mechanical eng., economics and architecture. Students have the option to choose from 15 sport activities within the frame of PE. The most favorite gymnastic activities are climbing, fitness exercises, aerobics, gym ball exercises, Chinese gymnastic and yoga. Volleyball, floor ball, soccer, badminton and tennis are the most attended game activities. Students who are physically handicapped have the option to attend a class for rehabilitation. Swimming classes are also very popular and they’re held in the city swimming pool. Students have opportunity to improve their swimming skills and for others, the opportunity to become swimmers. During the semester KTV also arranges extra optional or non-optional winter and spring course for all students of technical university in Czech Republic or in abroad.
The department in cooperation with methodological center arranges professional seminars for teachers of PE from primary schools in the Liberec area for the purpose of informing them about actual questions from theory and didactics of school PE.
Research activities of KTV are directed towards problems with the heath abilities of school teenagers and on factors of heath lifestyles of children in the Nisa region. The recently built diagnostic center of sport coordination has improved the quality of this activity in the area. Once every two years the department arranges an international scientific conference to consider the problems with sport coordination.
International cooperation in regard to the direction of the department is oriented towards the PE departments of foreign universities in Zittau, Jelenia Góra, Krems, Wroclaw, Besancon, Huddersfield. The cooperation is created in professional seminars and long-term attachments with universities abroad, sport events, students and teachers exchanges at sport courses.
KTV takes part in the arrangement of sports tournaments on a regional championship level, universities and academic championships in the Czech Republic and the World. The department has arranged these most significant events in the past few years:
